Middle Primary News
On Thursday the 31st of August the Year 3/4 class went on a tour of the local Catholic Churches on the SYP. The class travelled to Warooka, Minlaton, Ardrossan and Edithburgh to learn about each church.
The students had been learning about the sacred items within the Catholic Church and what significance they hold to Catholics. The students really enjoyed looking at how each of the churches were similar and how they differed from one another.
It was fantastic to see the students develop a greater understanding of the Catholic Tradition and the history each of the Catholic churches on SYP.
Garden News
The late winter season in the garden has been quite abundant - check our huge beetroot crop! As you can see in the photos, our rhubarb patch has produced continuously, allowing us to utilise the harvested stems across in years 5, 6 and 7, in the Home Ec program. We have learned about which parts of the plants are edible and which parts we discard - ask your children if they can remember!
Spring blossoms have filled our plum and peach trees, and a little extra watering has been required with the recent warmth. Two whole strawberries have been picked so far - with loads more flowers and small fruit set ready for summer snacks.
Can anyone use any extra small plastic pots at home? The green space has a few spare and you would be welcome to have them, please contact Jo for more info.

Senior Primary News
Today our Senior Primary Class went on a tour of the Salt Lakes on the SYP. We visited historical sites, talked about the water system, native plants and birds, as well as a visit to Yorketown's water tower mural. It was a great opprtunity to see more of our local area as well as develop a greater understanding of revegetation projects and our local salt industry.
Principal's Report
Hi all,
Only a week to our school performance! Yesterday’s rehearsal was fantastic, and the children adapted to performing with microphones, under stage lights and in front of the seats in the Light Church auditorium magnificently. It really is a wonderful experience for them.
To coordinate a whole school musical of over 90 children is a credit to the staff and the community. One of my favourite sayings is ‘Lots of Moving Parts’ and that certainly was the case yesterday as we had our entire school on an excursion for rehearsal.
We will repeat this on Tuesday for a dress rehearsal and then again on Wednesday for the matinee performance. If you have indicated that you are dropping children off at Edithburgh in the morning and picking them up in the afternoon; Tuesday and Wednesday of next week will operate identically to yesterday.
We’re excited to have our friends from YCCC attending the matinee performance.
Performance – 6th of September – Light Church – 11:30am
The students will be performing a Matinee performance at 11:30am. This performance is open to all family members.
Performance – 6th of September – Light Church – 6:30pm
All students need to arrive at the Light Church for the evening performance by 5:45pm but can arrive anytime from 5:15pm. Parents are invited to enjoy some light nibbles supplied by the Parents and Friends Team prior to the performance in the foyer and in the outdoor areas. They will also be serving families post the performance time.
New Facilities
We have moved into our exciting new facilities in the Middle and Upper Primary. Our children have loved the flexibility of the new break out spaces, and the ability to transition into the 3/4 room from the main undercover area. Pinboards in the classroom will be installed over the weekend and then we will post some photos out to the community. All classrooms are now complete at our school, and it allows our students to access incredible learning facilities.
Class Structure
Over the past few weeks, we have had some enrolment enquiries for 2024 and we are looking to finalise our class structure shortly. We are likely to keep a similar structure to 2023. If your child is not returning to SCMS in 2024 please let me know as this has a direct impact on our staffing, which we wish to finalise as soon as possible.
Fundraising
I’d like to publicly thank our Parents and Friends community and the wider SCMS family for their support in fundraising. Over the course of the year through our Fundraising Dinner, Online Auction and other smaller initiatives we have exceeded $10,000 in funds raised which gives us the ability to subsidise our school camps and excursions for families.
Kind regards,
Scott
RU OK?
The 14th September marks RUOK? Day! The past few years have highlighted the strength and resilience of our community - we are stronger together.
Everyone is welcome to join SYP Community Hub staff for a special 'Laps of the Lake' on Thursday the 14th September, preparing for the summer months ahead. Daniel from the CFS and Matt from Australian Red Cross will join us from 9.00am to walk, talk and enjoy a community morning tea at the Hub from 10.00am. Bring a friend and join us for a walk and a cuppa!
Spanish News
This week in Spanish our Upper and Senior Primary classes researched the origins of Churros, a Spanish fried dessert, and had a great time making them!
