This week in Maths we are learning how to record and interpret data. We sorted a collection of random Lego pieces into colour and used tally marks to show the amounts. We worked in partners and the students enjoyed sharing their different results with one another at the end of the lesson.

Reception News

This term in Health we have been discussing Responsibility. For the activity in this photo, we had to read cue cards and decide if it was a 'responsible action' or an 'irresponsible action'. The Reception class did well with this task and loved hearing all the ways they can be responsible!

Spain is known around the world for his form of dance: FLAMENCO. It is a dance that is characterized by hand clapping, stamping of feet, hand, arm and body movements. It is often accompanied by music which is  often the flamenco guitar, and also has a soulful, emotional singer. This form of dance started with the gypsy people, called Gitanos in Spanish.

Senior Primary News

22 November 2022

Over the last 8 weeks, the 5/6/7 class has been learning about all things business. Its structure, profit and loss, consumers and producers. More recently, they have been given the opportunity to work in groups to create their own small business that will run a market stall for the SCMS public. They have been working extremely hard to gather products, create unique items, and pitch their ideas to other students. This week, they have even created the amazing advertisements. We will be sending these home next week.

The businesses will be running in Week 8 on the Wednesday at recess and lunch time (10:30-11:00 & 1:00-1:40), whilst one special group is offering their car washing skills to families at times specified in their newsletter advertisement.  All profits raised from the stalls will be donated to the Vinnies Christmas appeal.

We would love as much support as possible!

I continue to work with a group of 7 students who have completed all of their Spelling Levels, and would benefit from some challenging extension work with Writing. Currently we are working together on a task, 2 mornings a week. Our aim is to write a very brief, bland paragraph about an incident involving us personally. We are then taking this uninteresting paragraph and rewriting it to become a captivating, expanded piece, using several of the Descriptive Writing techniques that we have studied this year. When this polishing and editing is completed, we are presenting it to our group, defining the techniques we have used, and welcoming comments.

Our final task for this year will be to examine Albert Einstein’s comment that not everything that can be counted truly counts, and not everything that really counts can be counted. An interesting philosophical comment for us to put our minds to and respond in writing.

Middle Primary News

21 November 2022

Last week the Middle Primary Class spent an afternoon with Jo learning about the school’s new green space. Jo led the students on a tour of the green space, teaching them all about the different types of plants in the garden. Students then went on a garden scavenger hunt to answer all thequestions reflecting on what Jo had taught them.

At the end of the scavenger hunt, the students enjoyed a shared BBQ lunch cooked by our amazing chef Jo.

It was a fantastic experience for all the students, exposing them to new information about the plants and processes in our school garden. They can’t wait to start cooking with some of the vegetables early next year!
